Canon has finally taken upon themselves to refresh their DSLR line-up after a long wait, especially for the higher end models. Arrival of 1DX Mark II a few weeks back and now, the much awaited, Canon 80D. Hence we could not wait to do a Canon 70D VS Canon 80D comparison, atleast for the specs if not the performance, yet.

The 80D had a long time coming as the 70D had been launched way back in 2013. A comparison between both the models is important to see what has changed, and more importantly, what has not, in the Canon 70D VS Canon 80D saga.

The design of the Canon 80D is quite similar to the 70D with similarly placed buttons. The Pop up flash hood seems to be a bit smoother though. All the dials are to be found in the same place though a little has been relocated at the back to perhaps give a better grip on the 80D. As for Canon 70D VS Canon 80D size factor, both are almost the same size, not much of a difference there. However, the EOS 80D is 25g lighter than the EOS 70D which is sort of negligible considering both the DSLRs are around the 750g mark.

One of the major advantage that the Canon 70D had over cheaper models like the 750D  or the 700D was that it had a great battery life of 920 shots. Canon has upped their game with the Canon 80D there as the CIPA rating for it is higher and the camera is expected to give 960 shots per full charge.

Continuous shooting comparison on the Canon 70D VS Canon 80D gets us no where as the burst speed stays put at 7FPS. Hearing the pleas of the multitude of photographers who had requested for a 3.5mm jack in the 70D, Canon has gone forward and put one in the 80D. The mode dial of the 80D also has place for an extra custom mode. The biggest win for the 80D in the Canon 70D VS Canon 80D war is that its has 45 Cross type AF points as compared to the previous 19 AF points on the Canon 70D. The ISO rating on the 80D is one stop higher than the 70D taking it to IS0 16,000 as compared to ISO 12,800 on 70D. Both, however can be extended to ISO 25,600. 80D also wins the Canon 70D VS Canon 80D war when it comes to sensor as the newer DSLR comes with a 24.2MP crop sensor as compared to the 20.2MP crop sensor on the 70D.
