Pokemon GO Cover

Put on your pokecaps, tune your pokeflute and stock up on pokeballs. Pokemon GO just launched on the play store and the app store. Sadly, it has only released in Australia, New Zealand and USA as of now, and is planned to release in other countries soon. Living in India, who knows how long that could take. So I’m not going to wait around for it to release here. A few might’ve already figured out how to get this new game set up in their phones. For those of you who would like to know. Follow on. I’m going to show you how to get the game, install it, and essentially play it.

Pokemon Go offcially launched on android and iOS
Pokemon Go is an augmented reality game to experience your own pokemon adventure.

Note: This installer guide is only for Android phones. There is no way yet to get this app on the iPhone. So iPhone users would have to wait until the app becomes available in the app store.

Getting the Pokemon GO app

As soon as I heard that Pokemon GO has been launched I rushed over to the play store only to find to my dismay that it had not been launched in India yet. That does not seem so fair. So I’ll take you step by step through the process to install it in your phone, if the game is not available where you live.

  1. Since you won’t be able to download the app from play store you have to download it from a site that offers the apk. Click here and download the apk file. Transfer the apk to your phone.
  2. Now open the apk, an installer window will open up. If you don’t have the Unknown sources installation checked in the security setting, a dialog will pop up asking you to enable it. Check the box to allow the installation of apk from unknown sources and open the apk and install the app.
  3. Open up the app, and accept all the permissions it asks for. Login using your google ID or Pokemon trainer club. Customize your character according to your wishes and you’re all set.

How to Play

Playing Pokemon GO for the first time can be a bit confusing. At first you will find some starter Pokemon in your immediate vicinity. Pokemon GO is an augumented reality based game that tracks your position via GPS, You would have to move around in real life to move the player. Move the player to your closest Pokémon. The application will ask to use your camera to find the Pokémon.

You are provided with pokeballs to start with and the app will assist you in catching your first pokemon. Just throw the pokeball towards the pokemon you see on the screen and if you do it correctly it will show the pokeball capturing the pokemon.

The moment of truth now. We all remember that heart in mouth moment as the pokemon struggles to get out of the pokeball. Well you will most probably catch your first pokemon. And now that pokemon is yours. It wil show up in the pokedex and as your pokemon. I’ve tried and tested you are able to find pokemon and pokestops in India.

Gotta catch em' all on Pokemon GO
Although not officially released in india yet, you can find and catch pokemon around you.

I haven’t come across any gyms but I’m pretty sure you’ll find them. Even if you’re not catching Pokemon you can collect the daily gem bonus in the shop menu. The daily gem bonus is generated every 21 hours. To collect the daily defenders bonus you need to get a pokemon into the pokemon gym. So leave all that and focus on the main mission, gotta catch em’ all.

So there is it guys. Everything you need to know to get your pokemon journey started. So go out there and catch all 250 pokemon (literally).

Note: You might want to reinstall the application from the play store once it becomes available in your country, since you will want the updates. All the data is synced to your account so you won’t lose any data.
