Airbus is a commercial plane manufacturing company based in Blagnac, France. The company is one of the world’s largest manufacturer of commercial jumbo jets and is known to provide planes which have the most cramped up economy class seatings.
To make things worse, the company has filed a patent that shows mezzanine seating within the cabin which makes for a kind of stacked passengers effect.
Aircraft manufacturers generally stress on the fact that these designs are not necessarily going to be implemented, and that a company like Airbus files for hundreds or maybe thousand’s of patent every year.
“This does not mean they are necessarily going to be adopted into an aircraft design,” -Airbus.
The company also stated that it files patents just to preserve the innovation and idea.
Preserving the idea does state the fact that the comapany might use it in the future, if not now.
Currently there are planes in operations with multiple levels of seating but those have full floors and not a maze like honecomb structure that this Airbus patent intends to implement.
“In modern means of transport, in particular in aircraft, it is very important from an economic point of view to make optimum use of the available space in a passenger cabin,”-Airbus patent opening.
Although we agree that making optimum use of space is something which should be adopted but this can’t be achieved by stacking people upon each other like shipping containers. Companies should try to implement ideas that make economy class flying a little more comfortable and affordable, that way they’ll not only have a better brand image but also they’ll have an exponential increase in cleintage.
Travelling is something everyone needs and has to do from time to time, if the Airbus patent is implemented, it will make the already cramped economy section even more uncomfortable, what is your opinion on this ?
