Canon has always been one to entice video makers with its appealing tech. With the new Canon EF-S18-135 f3.5-5.6 IS USM lens it has done just that, and more. The newer version has some important upgrades as compared to its predecessor. The Canon EF-S18-135mm f3.5-5.6 IS USM encompasses a new type of motor which is designed to give ‘quieter’ video performance, much like Canon’s STM stepper-motor lenses but with the greatly improved still-photo focus speed of its higher-end ultrasonic motor PLUS it comes with a connector to support the company’s new power-zoom adapter accessory.

The new Canon EF-S18-135 f4.5-5.6 IS USM lens will be priced at $600 (Rs. 41,307) which is only $50 more as compared to the popular STM version. Canon will start shipping the Canon EF-S18-135 f4.5-5.6 IS USM lens in March as a kit lens option for the new Canon 80D. The Power Zoom Adapter will have to be bought separately and will start shipping in June 2016 for $150 (Rs 10,300).

Canon has dubbed its new motor tech as “Nano USM,” and it claims that this new motor provides STM-like smooth autofocus, but offers a whopping 4.3x faster focus at 135mm and 2.5x faster AF at 18mm.

The Power Zoom adapter, which can be coupled with the Canon EF-S18-135 f4.5-5.6 IS USM lens is a separate unit which locks into the bottom of the new lens and allows you to drive the zoom via a camcorder-like zoom switch, at speeds from 2.4 to 14 seconds to traverse the entire focal range. The Adapter runs on 4AAA batteries but unfortunately it will only work with lenses equipped with the connector, which for now translates to just the newer 18-135mm lens from canon.
