Mi India is excited to announce the launch of its second ‘Made in India’ smartphone, Redmi Note Prime, on Amazon.in. Redmi Note Prime will be available for Rs. 8,499 exclusively on Amazon.in and Mi.com, starting 10.00am on 15th December 2015.
Xiaomi announced in August this year that it would manufacture its devices locally in India, in a show of commitment to Honourable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s ‘Make in India’ initiative. The company kicked off its ‘Make in India’ plans with the launch of its first smartphone manufactured in India, Redmi 2 Prime.
Redmi Note Prime is the second Mi phone to be manufactured in Sri City, Andhra Pradesh, in partnership with Foxconn Technology Group. Redmi Note Prime is an enhanced version of Redmi Note 4G with dual SIM slots, 2GB RAM, 16GB Flash (expandable to 32GB) and a Snapdragon 410 64-bit processor. With the memory upgrade, Redmi Note Prime offers an even smoother user experience and more space for apps and media on a 5.5″ HD IPS display.
The key specifications include:
- Snapdragon 410 Quad-core 64-bit processor
- 5.5″ HD IPS display (1280 X 720 resolution, 267 PPI)
- 2GB of LP DDR3 RAM and 16GB onboard Flash extendable to 32GB
- 3100mAh Lithium-ion Polymer Battery
- 4G dual SIM
- 13MP f/2.4 rear camera and 5MP f/2.2 front-facing camera
Manu Jain, India Head, Xiaomi said, “We are really happy to be able to deliver to our promise of continuously innovating and catering to the needs of our Mi Fans. With the launch of Redmi Note Prime, we are glad to provide our Mi Fans an opportunity to upgrade to an even more powerful smartphone with an expanded memory and dual-SIM capabilities. The 3100 mAh high-capacity battery, coupled with MIUI optimizations, has enabled Redmi Note Prime to achieve the most impressive battery performance yet. Local manufacturing shows Xiaomi’s commitment to being a part of fabric of India and we are truly excited to roll out our second ‘Made In India’ offering for our Mi fans.”

The phone, though seems promising, leaves Indian consumers complaining as Xiaomi has already launched the next version of Redmi Note series in China called Redmi Note 3, and has announced no plans of bringing it to India, possibly due to the fact that Redmi Note 3 has a MTK processor which unfortunately due to Xiaomi’s pending court case with Ericsson, it can not launch in India. Hopefully Xiaomi will bring its Redmi Note 3 to India with a Snapdragon processor in the near future.
