CoolPad in the past couple of years has launched many smartphones which are truly value for money devices. Now they have come up with an India exclusive smartphone called the Coolpad Note 5. This phone is the latest one in their note series, and we have have explored this device extensively and this is our review of the same.

Design & Build Quality – Coolpad Note 5

Coolpad Note 5 comes in the standard meal unibody design. We can go as far as to say that it is quite similar to the Xiaomi Note 3 , atleast on the rear side. The glass is 2.5D and curves evenly into the chamfered edges. This gives a nice premium feel while scrolling media on the Coolpad Note 5.

On the right side of the device is the Hybrid Dual SIM slot. So there is a Nano+Micro SD/Nano slots in the smartphone. Below which is the power button.

The left side of the device has the volume rocker keys. The device has a weight of 173.4g and has dimensions of 152 x 75.7 x 8.85mm. In terms of looks the device looks premium. The laminated display is supported by bezels around it.

On the front side you have the LED notification light, proximity sensor, earpiece, 8MP frotn camera and LED FLASH. Yes, the Coolpad Note 5 comes with a front LED flash too, to light up your low light selfie.

Below the screen are touch capacitive buttons, these are not backlit.

On the top of the phone we can see the headphone jack and there is a microUSB port at the bottom for the USB file transfer and charging the smartphone.

The phone fits well in the hand and gives a decent grip.

At the rear side we can see the rear flash camera with LED flash, beneath which is a circular fingerprint sensor. It helps you to unlock the phone even when the screen is locked by just placing your finger on the fingerprint scanner. It worked 9/10 times and is fairly quick.

Display – Coolpad Note 5

The phone has a 5.5 inch display with a FHD screen resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. There is a laminated display with scratch resistant glass layer on top.

It should be noted that the glass is not Gorilla Glass and may scratch easily. Coolpad includes a screen protector in the box of Coolpad Note 5. The screen is an IPS LCD display and is fairly sharp at 401ppi. Watching movies and videos on the Coolpad Note 5 is no problem.

Memory & Performance – Coolpad Note 5

This device comes with 4GB of RAM, 32GB of internal memory and there is a microSD card support of upto 64GB. While using the UI there was no lag at all. We tried many transitions and the phone did responded well indeed.  This phone is powered by a 1.5GHz Octa Core Snapdragon 617 Processor.

Software – Coolpad Note 5

It runs on Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow with the Cool UI 8.0. Adding widgets is now a simpler task in the phone. After long pressing anywhere on the home screen widgets can be added. Loads of things are customizable in terms of apps orientation and widgets appearance in the home screen. There is a also an in-built feature where the user can operate multiple whatsapp and facebook accounts. This is something useful for anyone who wants to use multiple accounts owing to the device being dual SIM.

There are many pre-installed apps like the WPS Office, Zuimei Weather, UC Browser and many more.

Camera – Coolpad Note 5

It has a 8MP of front camera with f/2.2 aperture, 80.1 degree wide angle lens and LED Flash. Coolpad Note 5 comes with a 13MP f/2.2 rear camera with LED Flash.  It has 5P lens, f/2.2 aperture and there is an option for 1080p @30fps video recording as well. It also has a CMOS sensor. There is a Pro mode in the camera, Beauty Mode and also the Photo mode. The photos came out to be satisfactory.

Connectivity – Coolpad Note 5

The device has Bluetooth 4.0, GPS, USB OTG Support, Wi-Fi Connectivity, 3G, 3G and 4G VoLTE.

Battery – Coolpad Note 5

The phone has a battery capacity of 4010 mAh. The battery performance was supreme. So with average use the phone can be used for 2 days with ease after full charge of the smartphone. If you are a heavy user you will still go to bed at night with 15-20 percent battery left. Coolpad Note 5 includes fast charging but the charger out of the box is a normal 1 amp one and takes a really long time to charge the device.

The Coolpad Note 5 comes with many USPs such as 4GB RAM, UI, Full HD display and a premium design at a price of Rs.10,999.

This is a phone with excellent battery life offered and decent performance. If you want a decent performance smartphone with good battery CoolPad Note 5 is the right choice.
